Technology/Product Roadmap Planning

Overview

The ASU Technopolis Technology/Product Roadmap Planning program is sponsored by McDonnell Boehnen Hulbert & Berghoff LLP.

The purpose of the 8-hour workshop ASU Technopolis Technology/Product Roadmap Planning program is to help early stage ventures improve the planning of their products and technologies and to communicate to key stakeholders its technology innovations and commercialization position. Participants will be shown how to apply Technology/Product Roadmap Planning to increase their SBIR/STTR successes. This workshop will assist with proposals companies are preparing for federal stimulus dollars.

Workshop – In a classroom setting with other ventures, technology entrepreneurs are introduced to Technology Roadmap Planning methodology. The process is very structured and based upon a proven Roadmap planning approach that has been tested with hundreds of technology and life science ventures. A Technology Roadmap containing market, product, technology and research elements that can holistically integrate the specific needs, drivers and dependencies of the venture’s ideas. A multi-disciplinary team from the venture is encouraged to attend this workshop.

One-on-One Coaching: Classroom teaching is supplemented with one-on-one coaching.

At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will have an understanding of the benefits of, and the early skills to use, roadmaps to focus, plan, communicate and position their innovations and inventions in research and development proposals, business plans and business development presentations. They will be better able to describe their work plans for proposals, increasing their probability of selection for awards. They will be able to better articulate their sustainable competitive advantages of their proposed business, increasing their probability of raising necessary funds, and they will be able to crisply and clearly describe to customers compelling value propositions that can increase sales. Other benefits include tools that aid the entrepreneur in structuring win-win strategic alliances, skills essential for technology-based businesses to grow.

Program

  • Participants will exercise, with the help of seasoned technology entrepreneur instructor and expert volunteer coaches, roadmaps that will include science and technology, markets and products.
  • In-class, Internet-based searches will be performed to examine relevant government, industry and corporation roadmaps for foundational examples for entrepreneurs.
  • Workshop participants will be introduced to methodologies used by large companies for decades; these methodologies have been tailored for entrepreneurial sized ventures to help them to generate their own TRMs in their businesses (best achieved in concert with their key technical and management personnel).
