Nanotechnology
We hear new things about technology on a daily basis. New mobile phones appear, new computers are made and new software programs and operating systems are released, however we keep going this way without having a clue that advancements in Nanotechnology are some of the most important in the world; nanotech is at the basis of everything we know today. What is Nanotechnology exactly? Nanotechnology can be defined as the science that manipulates matter on an atomic scale or at a molecular level. As a science it has applications in many fields and stands at the basis of each one of them, making the world easier to understand and manipulate. It has great importance from a scientific point of view and stands to open many doors and answer a lot of questions for mankind.
The importance of Nanotechnology can be derived from its use in fields such as medicine, environment, energy, information and communication, industry and consumer goods. Nanomedicine is a specific branch of medicine that uses nanotech to branch out into its own hybrid field; nanotech also has an application in diagnostics, drug delivery and tissue engineering.
When it comes to environmental issues this science is used to filter and treat water especially. It can also be used to reduce energy consumption and increase the efficiency of energy production. In the field of information and communication nanotech has had a lot of important impacts; it is because of this science that we are able to take advantage of better memory storage and displays, but it has also had an important say in novel semiconductor devices and optoelectronic devices.
In heavy industry this field of science has a great importance for aerospace, construction – where the use of nanoparticles has increased and has many uses, chemistry – and catalysis, as well as for vehicle manufactures. Foods, cosmetics, textiles and optics also make great us of nano science.
